Brisbane International is the only airport serving the Brisbane, Australia area and is one of the key ports into the Australian international market. Located just nine miles from Brisbane and stretching for several miles, the Brisbane International Airport is ideal for travellers looking to enter into the country or depart to a foreign destination. Passengers who fly into the Brisbane International Airport will find a pleasant introduction into the Queensland and most who travel here consider it a convenient travel method for entering the sunny beaches and coastal lands of the Gold Coast area.
Brisbane Airport was originally constructed in the Second World War as a way to haul supplies between countries. By the 1970s the original airport was considered inadequate for the size of planes and amount of travellers entering into the country, which is why additional domestic terminals were created in 1988. By 1995, the international terminal had opened and since then, the airport has expanded greatly to accommodate the number of flights entering and departing the facility on a daily basis.
Short-term parking is available adjacent to the terminals. Long-term parking is connected to the international terminals via covered walkways and is charged per day or in three-day increments.
Brisbane is the perfect place to walk around, but travellers can take advantage of buses, taxi services and shuttles. Buses run on weekdays regularly, but they are not as reliable for weekend travel. Travellers new to the area can check out the Botanic Gardens in Bamboo Grove or visit the shopper's paradise of Queen Street. Hotels and luxury resorts are located throughout the area for short-term and long-term stays.
Those looking for beach time can visit the South Bank of Brisbane. With decadent dining, multi-cultural shops and the perfect beach scenery, it is the ideal getaway for travelers new to the area.
Between the shopping and the beach scenes, travelers are encouraged to visit the Treasury Casino for a little gambling against and then engage in the Brisbane nightlife by visiting the live shows, bars and restaurants within the 19th-century facility.
