Tokyo Narita Airport

Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT)

Tokyo Narita Airport is the second busiest airport in terms of passengers and the busiest freight hub in Japan. Featuring two terminals, the airport is a hub for many carriers including American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and United Airlines. Frequent upgrades to the terminals and the building of more runways is allowing for expansion.

History

Tokyo's Narita Airport was originally designed as an expansion to Tokyo International Airport, also known as Tokyo Haneda. Amidst several riots and government conflicts, however, the building of the airport was put off for several years. What should have been completed in 1971 was not complete until 1978. Several runways were constructed from 1978 onwards, with the most current projects scheduled for completion in 2015.
