Oslo Airport (OSL)
Oslo Airport, abbreviated OSL, is also known as Gardermoen Airport or simply Gardermoen because it is located at Gardermoen, which is a suburb located about 22 miles from the center of Oslo.
This airport is the main airport for Oslo, Norway and is the largest of three serving the city. It serves both domestic and international flights and is the second-busiest in all of the Nordic countries. It serves more than 21 million passengers every year, making it the 19th busiest airport in all of Europe as well.
The area that is now the Oslo Airport was used by the Norwegian Army in 1740. Its first military airport facilities were built on the same location in the 1940s.
The airport was actually a reserve for charter flights to another Oslo airport until that particular airport was closed in 1998, and Oslo Airport became the primary commercial and charter location for Oslo.
Currently, the airport is beginning construction on its most recent expansion plan, which includes a new terminal that is scheduled to open in 2017.
