General Description of Malaga Airport (AGP)

Malaga Airport is one of the oldest airports in Spain that has remained in its original location, and serves Costa Del Sol and Gibralter. It has been growing ever since it opened on March 9, 1919. Flights began on a regular basis, September 1, 1919, and in 1937 it became a military base, training Air Force pilots, returning to civilian status in 1945. Terminal 2 opened November 30, 1991. Terminal 3 was completed March 15, 2010. June 26, 2012 a new airport runway officially opened. Malaga serves nearly 100 airlines, and has seen millions of passengers pass through.

It started facilitating flights on a regular basis on September 1, 1919, and in 1937 it temporarily became a military base, training pilots for the Air Force, returning to civilian status in 1945. Terminal 2 opened on November 30,1991. Terminal 3 was completed on 15 March 15, 2010. June 26, 2012 a new airport runway officially opened.

Airport Services

WiFi - Moviestar, pay PCs found throughout the terminal, or free WiFi PCs available in the VIP Lounge. e 5.6/hr. There are restaurants, bars, cafes - a total of 15 establishments, ranging from star chef cuisine to coffee shops. Some popular ones are Burger King, Starbucks, and La Moraga. After passing through security you will find 19 shops. You can purchase tobacco, reading material, gifts, cosmetics and more, tax and duty free. Wheelchairs, and staff, are available to assist disabled passengers. Please request this service when booking your ticket.

Parking & Transportation

There are four parking areas: general public, express parking area (charges by the minute), short term parking (charges by 30 minute blocks), long term parking for long stays and tall vehicles (charges by the day). You can reserve parking online with Empark. There is VIP parking with valet service. There is a train station underground (T3), to cities like Seville, and Madrid. You can also get a private transfer, with a personal car and driver to take you to your destination or hire a car from nine well-known companies onsite.

Airport Security

The security measures are the same as at any major airport in the world. Always have your boarding pass ready. A maximum of 1 liter size liquids, packed in plastic bags is allowed. You will need to remove belts, metal and shoes, and put computers and electronics opened and in separate tray. Let staff know of prosthetics or pacemaker.

There are 7 hotels in the Malaga Airport area. Some can be reached by free shuttle and others require a taxi.

Travel Tips

When you land you will be directed to Terminal 3, and there are clear signs to follow. Go down the escalators to collect baggage, and the taxi and bus stands are just outside. For departures, if you only have hand luggage you can save yourself a lot of walking by going directly to T3. Passport control is in T3. If you have time, come prepared to enjoy the resort atmosphere of Malaga's beaches.
