Kansas City International Airport (MCI)
The Kansas City International Airport is located 15 miles northwest of the business district in Kansas City. It is a decent-sized airport, seeing over 10 million passengers each year.
Despite the fairly small size, this airport has consistently been ranked in the top 5 airports in North America for several years. The unique thing about this airport is that it has always been a civilian airport. It has never served military purposes.
The Kansas City airport was built after the Great Flood of 1951 because the flood destroyed other airlines in Kansas City. It was originally called the Kansas City Industrial Airport. After a large merger, the name was changed to Mid-Continent International Airport and IATA airport code became MCI. It was expanded again in 1966, but this did not suit the needs, either, so more had to be done with the airport yet again.
It was in 1972 that the airport was destroyed and rebuilt one more time. It was chosen as the TWA hub, and an extensive amount of money went into this plan to make the airport right. It finally took on its current name, Kansas City International Airport. Even then, though, the airport didn't seem to be large enough for the passengers.
The terminals had to again be rebuilt. Problems with the airport have been solved since. The renovation was completed in 2004. It cost quite a bit of money, but the expansion allowed enough space and services for a suitable airport.

All of the parking at Kansas City International Airport is open 24 hours a day. There is a cell phone waiting area available free of charge for people that are waiting to pick someone up and don't want to pay for parking.
There is short term garage parking close to all of the terminals. All the lots are within walking distance of them. If this is not for you, there is economy parking and circle parking as well for a more affordable price. If you want, you can even take advantage of the valet parking services at a higher cost to you.
Parking and transportation services are available for the mobility challenged as well free of charge, so getting to the terminal will always be easy.
There are a variety of different ways that you can get to the rest of Kansas City from the airport when you want to enjoy the city. You can take the metro bus or the shuttle that is offered to take people into the city. You can also hire a taxi or a limousine to take you where you want to go.
