The Pittsburgh International Airport is the 4th largest airport in the country by land area. It has been recognized several times for its world-class facilities. Recently, Conde Nast Traveller Magazine readers ranked it as the 7th best airport in the US for business travel.

History

Pittsburgh International Airport's history started in the 1940s. It was initially a military airport that was later expanded to accommodate a commercial passenger terminal. This new airport opened in May 1952 and was then called the Greater Pittsburgh Airport. International arrivals began in 1972 and the airport was renamed to Greater Pittsburgh International Airport.

Through the decades, the airport continued to grow. In June 1987, construction started on the Midfield Terminal which was four times bigger than the old one and equipped with modern facilities. It opened October of 1992 and featured an innovative design that was copied by other airports.
