Air Canada to introduce onboard Internet
September 11, 2008

Next Spring, Air Canada plans to introduce onboard Internet access to customers on select transborder flights. The wireless service will be powered by Aircell, the company providing a similar service to American, Delta and Virgin America.

Pending Canadian regulatory approvals and upon completion of the initial phase, Air Canada said it plans to extend the system throughout its North American and international markets as Aircell's coverage network expands.

For a cost of $12.95 on select flights to the US West Coast, customers with a standard, Wi-Fi-equipped laptop or personal electronic device will have onboard access to the internet.

Aircell said it 'looks forward to the licensing and rollout of a Canadian air-to-ground network' to make it's service available in Canada.
