Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, using the IATA airport code CLE, is a public airport in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. It is currently the largest airport in the state and in 2009, ranked as the 39th largest airport in North America.
History
CLE was founded in 1925 by Cleveland's former city manager, William Hopkins. In 1951, the airport was named after Hopkins. It is also the first municipally owned airport in the United States after its founding in 1925. It is also the site of the first airport air traffic control tower, airfield lighting system, ground to air radio control and also the first U.S. airport that is connected to a regional rail transit system.
