Destination Information - Copenhagen, Denmark
It's obligatory, really, to see the Little Mermaid statue but there's so much to the delightful city of Copenhagen that you really only need to glance at it before heading off to the next attraction.
Copenhagen is the largest city in Scandinavia and Denmark's capital and spiritual centrepoint - but the city bears the responsibility with an effortless grace and impeccable Nordic style. It doesn't take a sophisticated appreciation of the arts to realize that Copenhagen is genuinely and perennially beautiful. There are canals, lakes, parks, castles, palaces and sensitively formed bridges. Plus vast pedestrianized areas that make strolling an effortless pleasure. The locals are friendly, with the majority speaking good English, and while the city is the most hectic place in Denmark, you'll soon realize how relative a term that is. You'll be kept busy, too - Copenhagen has over 50 museums of all sorts, and they're just for starters. Weather permitting, and sometimes it does, outdoor activities alone can keep you entertained for almost your entire trip. And when the day is at an end the lively, friendly nightlife is enough to keep anyone occupied. Then there are all the usual theatres, restaurants and entertainment you'd expect of a European capital, and we haven't even mentioned that Copenhagen has the longest pedestrianized shopping precinct in Europe... If you haven't thought of Copenhagen for the perfect city break, prepare to think again. |
