Information and Travel Guide for Leeds Bradford International Airport
Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA)

The Leeds Bradford International Airport is a very large airport that has seen an unbelievable amount of change since its establishment. Its official code is LBA. The airport is located at Yeadon and is the largest airport within Yorkshire, England area. It was the 16th busiest airport in England last year. It is a primarily passenger airline today.

History

The airport has a long history involving a lot of change. Leeds Bradford International Airport was established as Yeadon Aerodrome in October of 1931. It was created on only 60 acres of land and was original primarily used for training. It was 35 acres larger in size within a matter of 4 years.

The Yeadon Aerodrome, as it was called, was used for military aircraft during the war because of the close proximity to the location where the aircrafts were actually built. After the war, civil flights resumed and the airport began another history of change.

The Leeds Bradford Airport Joint Committee took over in 1959, and the airport took on its current name. Over the next half a century, the airport was expanded and remodeled quite a bit, which included a major setback in 1965 due to a fire that shut the airport down for three years. It reached 1 million annual passengers in 1996.
