Qantas to Launch World's Longest Nonstop Flight: Sydney to London in 21 Hours
Qantas Airways, the renowned Australian airline, is preparing to introduce the world's longest commercial nonstop flight, QF1. This extraordinary journey will cover a distance of 10,978 miles from Sydney to London and take approximately 21 hours. Departing Sydney in the evening, the flight will arrive in London the following morning. Conversely, QF2 will embark on its nonstop route from London to Sydney before lunchtime and reach its destination in the late afternoon the next day, spanning a duration of 20 hours. Currently, QF1 and QF2 operate with a layover in Singapore. However, the airline plans to launch the nonstop flights in 2025.
The forthcoming ultra-long flights between London and Sydney will be operated by the Airbus A350-1000 jets, which Qantas describes as the "ultimate long-range aircraft." The services have been named "Project Sunrise," inspired by the remarkable double sunrise passengers will experience during their journey. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce confirmed this initiative, highlighting that it represents the most significant advancement for travellers on the historic "Kangaroo Route" since 1947. Back then, Qantas pioneered flights from London to Sydney, which lasted three days and required seven stops along the way. Joyce enthusiastically remarked, "We are conquering distance," underscoring the groundbreaking nature of the nonstop flights. The Airbus A350-1000 aircraft will accommodate 238 passengers, offering a four-class service with premium class seats constituting approximately 40% of the total capacity. Currently, Singapore Airlines holds the record for the world's longest flight with its New York service. However, Qantas aims to surpass this milestone with its nonstop route between Sydney and London, delivering an unparalleled travel experience to passengers. |
