May 11, 2010
WestJet and Cathay Pacific today launched an inbound interline agreement to connect Cathay Pacific guests into WestJet's Canadian network. 'We are very pleased to make this announcement today,' said Hugh Dunleavy, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Strategy and Planning. 'This interline agreement signifies the progression of WestJet's strategic plans to expand our business into international markets, and offer guests the opportunity to travel seamlessly from points in the Cathay Pacific network to cities in our Canadian network.' The inbound interline agreement allows guests to board a Cathay Pacific flight and travel on one itinerary to select destinations in WestJet's network. Initially, connections will be made through the gateways of Vancouver and Toronto, with the option to continue via WestJet to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montréal and Halifax. WestJet has also entered into a baggage agreement with Dragon Air, Cathay Pacific's subsidiary regional carrier. This agreement will allow guests to have their bags checked all the way through for journeys that include a combination of WestJet, Cathay Pacific and Dragon Air flights. All reservations for interline bookings will be handled by Cathay Pacific. WestJet is Canada's preferred airline, offering scheduled service throughout its 68-city North American and Caribbean network. Inducted into Canada's Most Admired Corporate Cultures Hall of Fame and named one of Canada's best employers, WestJet pioneered low-cost flying in Canada.
