WestJet's People Focus Tops in Canada
June 5, 2008
WestJet Airlines Ltd today announced it has been named one of Canada's top companies for managing human resources, according to a national survey of top business executives. Toronto-based professional services firm The Beacon Group surveyed more than 4,000 Canadian executives for their views on the state of talent management in Canada. The survey ranked WestJet at the top, along with Research in Motion of Waterloo, Ontario. "Our people and our culture are what make WestJet different, and although we don't do it for the accolades, it's always nice to be recognized for what we've accomplished," said WestJet President and CEO Sean Durfy. "We hire for attitude and train for skills," Durfy continued. "Our People Department does a great job of ensuring that we are recruiting the right people and putting in the right training and development to allow them to shine. Our unique culture keeps our WestJetters engaged in their job which benefits the more than 12 million guests that fly with us each year. Our internal mantra is 'We succeed because I care', and it shows each and every day in the incredible commitment of WestJetters to our culture and values."
