On a diet? Tips for flying while watching your figure
Being on a diet is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. And let’s face it - it’s tough when you’re on a diet and doing any travelling. There are always delicious, quick and easy options everywhere! And let’s not forget that delectable aroma of deliciousness in airports, hotels, and even on the plane… So, for anyone who is trying to not give into the temptation here are some tips from Fly For Less to help you reach your goals.
SPECIAL AIRLINE MEAL: The nice thing about flying is that most airlines are there to please. That means if you have a longer flight and must have something to eat, don’t hesitate to ask for diet options or give them the specifics of your diet and see what they can do for you. Most airlines have a “can do” attitude when it comes to serving their clients. Also, now most airlines have a “special meal” menu that allows travellers to select from various vegetarian, children, religious, and medical food options. Airline “Vegetarian Meals” – Lacto-ovo vegetarians (no meat or seafood) Airline “Vegal” – No animal products or animal byproducts Airline “Hindu Vegetarian” – No meat or seafood with limited dairy If you are certain you’re going to want to eat on your flight you need to call the airline before and inform them of your special needs. You need to make sure and CALL AHEAD of time so that you can ensure you get your food exactly the way you’re wanting. Also, the airline should have a website where you can get more details about their specific food offerings. WHAT TO DO Try eating light before your flight and steer clear of the fast food inside of the airport. If you’re hungry try buying salads or fruit and sit in the boarding areas instead of the lobby where the food smells can readily reach you. Drink a lot of water. Studies show that as we get older our bodies mistake thirst for hunger. If you feel like you need to eat something make sure that you are hydrated before you decide to engage in a snack. You can buy bottled water or there are plenty of water fountains at most airports that are easy access and free. ALSO try to book non-stop flights. This gives you fewer options to eat something unintended and gives you less free time. AND be sure to keep yourself busy. You can bring a book to read or your work. This can distract you from thinking about wanting to eat something so that you avoid buying an unplanned meal. STAY FOCUSED As for anytime you are on a diet, not only while you’re travelling - it is critical to keep your focus. You have a goal that you are trying to reach! It’s always good to have a little motivation so maybe put a picture of what you want to look like on your phone or post it in your wallet or purse. Then when you’re feeling hungry and about to buy something you can see that picture and be reminded of what you’re working towards. |
